This project was inspired by a Roman artefact shaped like an eagle in an old newspaper article from 1911. It was used as either a rein guide or suspension support so I was curious to see how it worked and what it might look like on a carriage. The structure of the large carriage is based on the reconstruction at the Römisch-Germanisches Museum and the smaller one in the background is based on a reconstruction drawing made in 1890 of a 2 wheeled carriage found in Tétényi, Hungary which uses a similar shape to the eagle with one swan for both the rein guide and suspension support. I watched a lot of Engels Coach Shop to try and understand all the different parts. The log scans and all the models are my own work. The wood textures are from multiple sources – texture haven, texture box, textures.com and poliigon.
